The Hub: How the Story Started

The Lauderdale County Health Council is an award winning group. For over two decades, the Lauderdale County Health Council has partnered with community organizations to drive meaningful change—including:

• Exercise equipment and healthy infrastructure in Ripley Park
• County‑wide distribution of 150 youth bicycles and helmets
• Tobacco‑free campus designations
• Ongoing public health programs across schools, parks, and local events
• Collaborative wellness campaigns with UT Martin, Coordinated School Health, and the  Tennessee Department of Health.

We have already seen reductions in certain risk factors and increased momentum toward healthier living—proof that coordinated community efforts work. The HUB continues that legacy.

Betah Group Inc is a minority run non-profit. Dr. Simpfronia Taylor is President and CEO. Dr. Taylor is a grassroots motivator of communities and people. The work is rooted in the understanding that change is possible as small groups of committed leaders join together.  Dr. Taylor is the Director of Grants and Community programs at the University of Tennessee Martin.

Currently Dr. Taylor supervises/directs three projects;

• Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) NIH grant
• Digital Skills and Education Workforce (DSEW) grant
• The HUB - A Lauderdale Resource, a TN Dept. of Health grant

Mrs. Aretha Gooden serves as the Coordinator for the The HUB.   

Mrs. Gooden is the central figure in the day-to-day operations of the HUB and leads our mission to connect underserved community members to essential health and social services. This role is critical to unifying county resources and addressing social determinants of health.
